Welcome to Pelicans on Parade (POP!)

POP! is unique bird/art fundraiser in Klamath Falls, Oregon - honoring the City's mascot, the American White Pelican, beloved symbol of numerous businesses, schools, community groups, cinemas, and the hometown airport.

What's new? BIRD/ART Tours for 2008, and the new POP! Tour Guide, with map.

15 Painted Pelicans on View: POP! currently features a dazzling array of 7-foot-high, flying pelicans originally sculpted by Stefan Savides of Avian Design Studio, and creatively embellished by Klamath Basin artists.

Award-winning Artwork: Please click on Meet the Artists and the Pelican Gallery to view this exemplary community arts project which won Arts Recognition awards in 2006 and 2007, and is now supported by the Oregon Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Unprecedented Designs: Our local artists have astonished everyone by the ingeniousness of their designs. One pelican is covered in a stunning mosaic of colored glass; two are "living pelicans" with live plants; one has been transformed into a fighter jet; one is a high school graduate; others are a marvel of paintings - from mountains to waterfalls, birds in flight to wildlife portraits, and magical landscape scenes.

Community Events & POP!: Please click on POP! at Events to see the many ways POP! has enchanted the community and to see upcoming activities.

Birding Hotspot: POP! showcases many area artists and their sponsors, and focuses attention on the Upper Klamath Basin (southern Oregon and northern California) as a top birding destination in the West.

POP! Beginnings: POP! is organized by the 501c(3) non-profit birding group, Klamath Wingwatchers. The project began with ten decorated pelicans for the 2005 Centennial Celebrations, with more added in 2006, and still more on the way in 2008.

POP! is patterned after similar sidewalk-art fundraisers across the nation that have used various animals - including cows, pigs, horses, bears, lizards and fish to raise money for various nonprofits and charities.

POP! Auction sales to promote wildlife appreciation, conservation, & education: Proceeds from the sale of the POP! pelicans will be used by Klamath Wingwatchers for educational projects, including those in partnership with community nonprofits and art groups that promote birding and appreciation of natural resources in the Upper Klamath Basin. Major support will focus on the Winter Wings Festival, the Klamath Basin Birding Trail, and the new Klamath Outdoor Science School for students and teachers.
